I love celebrating Christmas.
I love celebrating most things, in case you didn’t already know this about me. <wink, wink>
So, this past weekend, when I pulled out my six containers of Christmas decorations, I was dismayed to find there were no holiday lights—anywhere.
Nada. Zip. Zilch.
When we lived in Texas, I think I owned at least 10 strands of white lights. For the tree, for our stair banister, for the front of the house…I love putting them everywhere!
But the last time I can remember using them was for my 50th birthday last January.
After searching our new North Carolina house high and low—every closet, the attic, the garage, every nook and cranny—the best I can guess is we left my white twinkling lights at the bed-and-breakfast where we celebrated my birthday with friends! (Or, they were lost during the move, which is totally possible.) BUMMER!
So, this weekend, after putting up our Christmas tree, and being dismayed to find out I didn’t have what I needed to decorate it properly, we set out to find some twinkly white Christmas lights.
Because I had a few other things to purchase (including Riley‘s first holiday inflatable…a festive unicorn!!) we decided Walmart was the best place to go.
I rarely shop at Walmart. Maybe once or twice a year if I have to.
But I was pleasantly surprised when I walked into the Walmart in my new town. It was big, bright, spacious and—thankfully—not crowded.
As I looked up at the signs to be guided to the home and garden center. I was surprised and delighted to see a big blue sign in their characteristic font that read
CELEBRATIONS
Wal-Mart has a section just for Celebrations!
As important as
Home & Garden
Pharmacy
Technology
Office
Toys
Clothing
Grocery
An entire section devoted to Celebrations!!!
It made my heart so happy, I was grinning from ear to ear.
I stopped right in the middle of the aisle to take photographs. I know the other shoppers were looking at me thinking “Who’s that crazy lady taking a picture of a sign?”
But to me… It was a sign.
We desperately need to celebrate our lives.
The big things (birthdays, holidays, new jobs, new houses).
The little things (a new client, starting a new fitness regimen, baby’s first steps).
Every year. Every month. Every day.
But especially this year.
So, as we set our sights on the end of 2020, I hope you will build in moments to celebrate.
- Celebrate what you’ve learned.
- Honor what you’ve lost.
- Acknowledge the silver linings outlining the dark gray clouds that have hung over this year for so many.
- Take moments by yourself to breathe & reflect.
- Cherish connection with your loved ones… be it in person or virtual.
- Create a ritual with my new Sacred Celebrations House Blessing Kit to bless your home and your family for getting through this year and set intentions for the New Year.
So be like Walmart and make CELEBRATING a priority in your life this holiday season.
Cheers!
Elizabeth
