Road Trip Round Up (Including One Very Bizarre Stop)

by Elizabeth

Riley and I just completed our 4th Annual Riley Roo & Mommy Too Grand Adventure!

In just two weeks, we logged 2,000+ miles, saw 30+ friends and relatives, and visited six cities throughout the state of the Florida. We made important connections, laughed a whole lot, and cried quite a bit, too. I must admit I was exhausted upon our return, but I’m so grateful we made this trip a priority.

Some highlights of our trip included:

  • Visiting with Riley’s birthdad Matt, who happened to be in Saint Augustine at the same time as we were driving through. I simply love watching them spend time together. It makes my mama’s heart soooo happy to see her shine with him.
  • Precious time storytelling, laughing and crying with my Trezise family over the weekend of my Aunt Carolyn’s memorial service.
  • A few relaxing days of sun, sand and surf with two dear girlfriends.
  • A fun excursion to the Ringling Museum in Sarasota.
  • Several meaningful days staying at my birth mom’s house, visiting with family, and staying up late at night talking about family history. (23 years into reunion, and I’m still always learning things about my ancestors!)
  • Visiting my parents’ grave in Clearwater and having to dig it up with an ice scraper!!! Read the whole bizarre (and somewhat hilarious!) story.
  • Quality time with more family on the Wheaton (my mom’s) side.
  • Playtime with friends in Tallahassee (next time we’ll stay longer to see more friends!).

Design your business to support your life when you can–that’s what I teach my clients to do and that’s what I do! The summer road trip concept originated when we lived in Texas and the relentless summer heat was simply unbearable for this Connecticut Yankee! Most of our family is on the East Coast, and since my coaching business has always been primarily virtual, it made sense for these trips to become mommy-daughter adventures. We have made wonderful memories over the years and I am grateful for quality time with my girl when she still wants to hang out with me. I know the teenage years are coming, and that might change a little bit!

Road trips are so important for a variety of reasons.

  • Uninterrupted time to talk with your fellow travelers (kids especially open up in the car!).
  • You get to see other parts of the state, country, or world and experience different customs, geography, and foods.
  • Space to make surprise stops and learn something new.
  • The snacks!!!!! (I don’t know why the trail mix that I pay way too much for at the convenience store tastes any better or different than what I buy at the grocery store…but it does!)
  • Face-to-face time with loved ones that you haven’t seen in a long time is simply priceless.

I’d love to know:

  1. What is one of your most memorable road trips?
  2. What’s one bizarre thing that’s happened to you on a road trip?
  3. What are your favorite convenience store snacks?! 😊

Leave a comment and let me know the answer to one or all of these!
