5 Things I’m Learning (Resources that might help you, too!)

by Elizabeth

If you’re a researcher or information gatherer like me, you’re always curious to learn tips and tricks to help make your life better. Whether it’s helping to grow your business, improve your relationships, take better care of yourself or deepen your spiritual connection, I’m all about it. I’ve been doing quite a bit of learning recently and thought I’d share some highlights with you to see if anything resonates for you (or someone you know)!

Five Things I’m Learning Right Now

  1. Human Design. Have you heard of Human Design? It’s kind of like being given a “user manual” for your life. I’ve been dabbling in it for a few years now. It’s a synthesis of astrology, the I Ching, the Kabbalah, the chakra system and quantum physics and it can help inform your life in so many ways. You can get your free chart online and then read Karen Curry’s Understanding Human Design to learn all about it yourself, but it’s a bit complicated. So, I recently had a session with Michelle Wolff and I had some BIG aha-s about how we communicate, how we make decisions, how we interact as a family. If you want to either be introduced to Human Design or delve deeper into your design, sign up for a session and tell Michelle that I sent you! (I’m a 5/1 Generator… would love to know what *you* are… send me a note!)
  2. Marketing, specifically Micro-Content. After 19 years in business, the one constant I’ve learned is that you’ve always got to be marketing. But marketing done well is really about educating people and figuring out if there’s a match between their problem and your solution! I’ve been taking classes with marketing guru Denise Wakeman on-and-off for over a decade now. She’s always up on the latest and greatest when it comes to visibility on the internet. If you struggle with getting a grip on marketing in your business, consider joining her Marketing Trailblazers group (super affordable and great community!) and/or join me for her Micro-Content Class coming up on Tues., Sept 10th. Would love to learn alongside you!
  3. Detoxification. My weight has yo-yoed my entire adult life. I tend to gain weight when sad things happen (think death, divorce, infertility and miscarriage) and I tend to rebalance my body when life is happier (think marriage, finally becoming a mom, moving). I’m working on rewriting that story so that the cycle stops for good… but I’m a work-in-progress. After having gained almost 30 pounds in the final six months of my mom’s life, I’ve been trying to rebalance my body for almost three years now with no luck. This is an area for me where sheer will-power isn’t enough. I’ve always been a fan of Functional Medicine, so I called on my reliable former healthcare practitioner Patrice Bullock in Thomasville, GA and we’ve been working together for a few months. She’s helping to rebalance my hormones and I’ve just completed a 10-day Liver Detox that has me feeling great. If you’ve struggled with health issues for a while and traditional doctors aren’t helping, consider giving Patrice a call and tell her I sent you!
  4. Skin care. We have four family members that have had skin cancer, so we don’t mess around with taking care of our skin in our household. Have you had your annual dermatology exam? If not, go schedule it right now! The skin is our largest organ and it’s so important that we take care of it! Whether it’s buying sunscreen or makeup, there’s a great resource to see how well-made these items are. Environmental Working Group is a non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to protecting human health and the environment. They also have great information and lots of consumer guides about food, water, energy, and more.
  5. Sensory Processing Challenges. This summer, we spent a week with Dr. Michael Trayford, a chiropractic neurologist in North Carolina, to help support our daughter, Riley, with her tiptoe walking. What we learned is that she has major sensory processing challenges due to developmental delays from infancy which show up in a variety of ways, not just in her tiptoe walking. It’s amazing that we’ve done the traditional western approaches to idiopathic tiptoe walking—physical therapy and even working with a pediatric orthopedic surgeon to do serial casting—and no one ever mentioned sensory processing issues. But now that we understand this is all coming from the brain, we’re working hard to help to rebuild those neural pathways to support her body’s strength and balance. I’m reading two books by Dr. Robert Melillo called Disconnected Kids and Reconnected Kids. Fascinating stuff for anyone who has a kiddo with sensory processing challenges. (I’ll be honest I’m a bit overwhelmed by it all, there is so much to learn!)

I always love hearing from my readers! If any of this is helpful to you, please leave a comment.

Cheers to learning!

P.S. I just enrolled a new coaching client and she said “this is going to be amazing and I cannot wait to see what we uncover together!” She’s ready to LEARN more about herself. If you are, too, let’s talk! Schedule a complimentary session here.
