Mid-Year Review

by Elizabeth

Yesterday was July 1st which means that it’s the Half Year New Year! 🙂 Hooray!

I always love January 1st because it marks the end of the old year and a fresh new year is ahead.

But I like July 1st, too, because it’s yet another opportunity to press the “pause” button in our lives and to take stock of how the year is going so far and take time to reflect on how I’d like it to go in the second half.

So yesterday I spent quite a bit of time with my journal and still have a few things to add as this week goes on. Kind of like January 1st, I don’t feel I have to write down ALL of my goals and dreams that day or they’re not going to manifest. I usually give myself a week or so for this reflective process.

(You can too! See below for some journaling prompts…)

I’m feeling particularly proud because my biggest accomplishment in the first half of this year was helping my  mom to fight and beat Stage IV throat cancer! Mom’s cancer journey certainly threw our entire family into a new and unexpected experience but we worked together to navigate it in a straightforward manner with as much grace, courage and fortitude as we could m uster. Although the treatment was really rough, it worked and she is now cancer free and has returned to her own home in Florida.  Woo hoo hoo!

So while the first six months of my year were not at all what I expected them to be, there were tremendous gifts and blessings that appeared all along the way. From the kindness and generosity of new friends here in Texas to the incredible support of my mom’s family and friends from all around the country to the precious time my mom had with her granddaughter, Riley to play, laugh and explore life together – it was a very sacred time.

Inspired Action:  I invite you this week to contemplate the following in your own journal….

1. What have I accomplished in the first six months of this year?

2. What am I celebrating that I planned, hoped or worked hard for?

3. What am I celebrating that was an unexpected surprise?

4. What is on the horizon in my life in the next six months?

5. As I look at different parts of my life, what are my goals for the following:

     – Health and Self Care

     – Relationships and Family

     – Work and Career

     – Finances

     – Spirituality

     – Hobbies and Fun

     – Other: (you fill in the blank!)

 6. Is there a particular theme I will claim for the second half of 2013? (It may or may not be the same theme you chose at the beginning of the year)

For so many people I know (myself included!), 2013 has been a huge year of transition and upheaval. A lot of learning, a lot of growing, a lot of new awarenesses are coming in our experience. It’s an exciting time to be alive on the planet.

Congratulations on making it half way through the year. Can’t wait to see what happens in this next six months!
