We all know, in theory, that we’re supposed to practice self-love and self-care but sometimes we forget that we are worthy of such love and care and sometimes we forget why it matters so much.
We are busy raising families, running businesses, volunteering in our communities, and we can get tired, overwhelmed, and even burned out.
But when you take time to slow down and build in some “me-time”, it really impacts those around you. When you live a life filled with love, laughter, hope, empathy and compassion for yourself, it spreads out into the world—like the ripple effect of the pebble in the pond.
For a gentle reminder about how to practice self-love and self-care on a regular basis, download my Kindle book Smart Self-Care for Busy Women now. It’s a quick read (less than 2 hours) but if you take a peek at the reviews, you’ll see it’s a book you can refer to again and again. (And if you already own it, fire up your Kindle right now and read a chapter or two!)
As we approach Valentine’s Day, that overly commercialized holiday that is marketed to celebrate romantic love, I invite you to consider how you can celebrate Valentine’s Day for yourself by reviewing these gentle reminders.
7 Self-Love Commandments
- If not you, then who? Buddha said “No one deserves your love and attention more than you.” Shift the spotlight from giving, giving, giving to others and pour some of that love, compassion and care into yourself.
- Good days start with gratitude. Spend time every single day focusing your energy on what you’re grateful for. Write 5 things in your journal. Run through a list in your head while you’re in the shower. Text them to your bestie (and ask them to text theirs in return). Energy flows where attention goes.
- Give yourself your best. Don’t always save it for others. Block out time every day that is your peak time for creativity and productivity.
- Stop getting in your own way. There’s no excuse for not putting yourself at the top of your priority list…or at least in your top five. You can’t keep going on an empty gas tank. Grab your calendar NOW and pencil in some time just for you.
- Say no to energy drains. If something or someone doesn’t lift you up, inspire you or make you feel positive, let it—or them—go. That means ditch the excessive social media, the messy office, the whiny client, the negative neighbor and the toxic relative.
- Set healthy boundaries. Others may want to monopolize your time. Or siphon off your life force. Don’t let them. Preserve your energy through clear communication.
- Celebrate every day. Got a new client? Woo Hoo! Exercised 5 days in a row? Rock on! Cleaned off your desk? Way to go! Find ways to celebrate the little things because they add up over time and become the big things.
