Summer is upon us and is often a busy time! It’s a season of sunshine and celebration—but also when life can feel rushed or chaotic. Between vacations, visitors, and packed schedules, it’s easy to forget to slow down and savor the sacred. (especially for those of us working parents with kiddos “off” for the summer!)
That’s where ritual comes in.
In my book, Sacred Celebrations: Designing Rituals to Navigate Life’s Milestone Transitions, I explore how ritual—big and small—can ground us in times of change. But rituals aren’t just for weddings, funerals, or life-altering events. Daily rituals can be just as powerful. They remind us to pause, to reflect, and to live with intention.
So today, I’m offering you a Summer Invitation. Try one small ritual every day from A to Z. Whether you do it alphabetically over 26 days, randomly pick one that speaks to you, or use this as a creative brainstorming tool, let this list be a companion to help you make this summer—for yourself and your loved ones—more meaningful.
A-to-Z Guide to Soulful Summer Rituals
Affirmations
Start your day with a powerful statement of intention: “I am focused. I am grateful. I am enough” or whatever words speak to you.

Beach Walks
Lucky you if you’re at the beach! But even if you’re landlocked, take a mindful walk near some water—river, stream, or pool—or in the trees and listen for what the elements teach you.
Candlelight Dinners
Turn a simple summer meal (watermelon for dinner, anyone?) into a sacred moment by lighting a candle and offering gratitude with your family before eating.
Digital Detox
Designate one day a week to unplug and be fully present with loved ones—or with yourself. Upgrading your self-care toolbox makes a difference!
Evening Gratitude
Before bed, write down three things you’re grateful for. Bonus: Share them with your partner in pillow talk or text your BFF before going to sleep.

Fresh Flowers Friday
Buy (or pick!) fresh flowers to bring beauty into your home or add color to your home altar.
Game Nights
Do you enjoy cornhole? Volleyball? Frisbee? Or something quieter like Ginny Rummy, Parcheesi or Backgammon? No matter the name, connection is the point of the game!
Hydration Blessings
Make it a family event to write encouraging messages on your water bottles each week. As you drink water throughout the day, read your blessings to be reminded of the good things in life.
Intention Setting Sundays
Keep it simple. Take 10 minutes to write down what you want to focus on for the week ahead.
Journal Under the Stars
Grab your journal and write by moonlight or starlight. Let the sky inspire your reflections.
Kindness Notes
Leave surprise notes of encouragement for your kids, partner or co-workers.
Lemon Water Each Morning
A personal favorite of mine, it’s a healthful practice to cleanse the body—and a symbolic fresh start to each new day.
Metta (Loving Kindness) statements
Try repeating this daily. My yoga teacher Cynthia ends every class with:
“May I be safe. May I be happy. May I be healthy. May I be at peace.”
“May you be safe. May you be happy. May you be healthy. May you be at peace.”
“May all beings be safe. May all beings be happy. May all beings be healthy. May all beings be at peace.”

Nature Walks with Intention
Instead of just hiking, walk with a question in your heart and listen for an answer from the trees. Stop to hug a few along the way.
Open Sacred Space
Each morning, open your day with a small ritual—light a candle, ring a bell, call in the four directions, or simply breathe.
Porch Time
My back porch is my summer sanctuary with trees, birds, deer and lots of flowers. I love listening to my wind chimes. Spend 15 quiet minutes on your porch or in your backyard, letting yourself just be.
Quiet Time Between Activities
Build in transition time between activities. After dropping your kids off at summer camp, allow for 10 minutes of quiet time before shifting gears to work or errands or whatever comes next.

Reading as Ritual
Of course, reading about ritual is a good idea too! 😊 Designate sacred time to read something that inspires or soothes your spirit—poetry, scripture, or a favorite novel. I’ve visited a few book clubs – I’d love to visit yours! (email me to inquire how!)
Solstice Celebration
Years ago, I had a huge group of friends that went on a Solstice Hike every year. Honor the longest day of the year (June 21!) with a backyard ceremony, bonfire, or other ritual.
Tea Meditation
Buy fresh teas at your local farmer’s market and brew a cup each morning (or evening) and savor it!
Unplugged Mealtimes
No phones. No screens. Just real connection over food. Whether by yourself or with loved ones.
Visualization Practice
Take a few minutes each morning to visualize your perfect summer day unfolding with ease and joy.

Wear Your Intentions
One of my favorite jewelry customers owns about a dozen of my Sacred Celebrations bracelets. She closes her eyes, places her hands over her jewelry box, says a prayer and asks “Which bracelets will be most supportive for me today?” and then she reaches in. Sometimes it’s rose quartz, green aventurine, tiger’s eye or black onyx. Shop here to choose one (or several) for yourself or to give as a lovely hostess gift for your summer travels!
Xpress Yourself!
Dance in your kitchen with your kids. Sing in the car alone. Create art with your friends. Let your creativity out!
Yoga (or stretching)
Start or end your day with 5 minutes of gentle movement and mindful breath.
Zzzzz… Sleep Blessing
I often sleep with a favorite crystal in my hands to help me calm down and transition from activity to rest. As you drift off to sleep, place your hand on your heart and say, “I am safe. I am loved. I am ready to rest.”
Your Invitation
Ritual doesn’t have to be elaborate. It just needs to be intentional.
Choose one of these A–Z rituals to try today. Then tomorrow, pick another.
Or create your own A–Z list with your family or friends!
If one speaks to you, I’d love to hear about it. Comment here or tag me on Instagram @elizabthbarbour and @sacredcelebrationsgifts and share your sacred summer rituals.
