Words matter. Having people who see us, love us, and believe in us matters.
Recently I was going through some emails from my spiritual advisor/business mentor/dear friend Michael Thomas and here’s something he shared with me back in the winter of this year when I was really struggling:
“You are in this incarnation to change the lives of many, including yourself. There is only one way up, and that is to claim your power, speak your truth, and move forward as a leader, as a lover, and as a friend. All things work together for good. While I know this is extremely difficult, do your best to not get attached to the outcome. Let it all unfold.”
I have revisited his words many times as I’ve navigated the past year and they give me great comfort. For all the ups, downs, turnarounds, and massive transitions in my life over the past two years (two moves, divorce, two surgeries (three if you count my daughter’s too!) and business expansion, I have to say that I’m doing exceptionally well on this side of the tumult.
And that’s because I am surrounded by people like Michael.
What about you?
- Do members of your inner circle speak kindly and love you fiercely?
- Who shares words of encouragement and affirmation to you on a regular basis?
- Do they really see your gifts and talents?
- Who challenges you to step more fully into the fullest expression of you?
Take time to really ponder these questions. Maybe even pull out your journal and jot down some notes. Because life is too short to spend time with anyone who doesn’t lift you up.
Motivational speaker Jim Rohn famously said, “You are the average of the five people you hang out with the most.”
Who are your five people?
And do you like who you are because of hanging out with them?
If not, it might be time to do an inner circle audit and actively cultivate relationships that will help you live your very best life. It’s too short not to.
