Guide to Your New Year’s Reset

by Elizabeth

While many of us were excited for the blank slate of the New Year, 2021 has gotten off to a rocky start. With political unrest, the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, Covid-19 cases increasing and uncertainty abounding, it’s been a challenging two weeks into the New Year so far.

I want to extend an invitation to you for your smart self-care practice that is so critical right now.

Don’t allow external circumstances to dictate your inner peace.

It’s easy to engage in mind numbing and anxiety provoking activities like watching too much news, eating too many chips, drinking too much wine, and excessive scrolling through social media.

But you can choose differently. Spend more time in nature. Exercise more. Schedule family movie nights or game nights. Hop on a (yet another) Zoom call to connect with the friends you haven’t seen in ages. Make art and make love. Read books that inspire you to learn and grow.

I’m not saying not to keep yourself informed of the events happening in the world. What I am suggesting is that the best way to keep your anxiety at bay is to control only what you can control and leave the rest.

Here are 3 strategies to help you press the reset button for the New Year.

1. Clear your space. Anything that brings negative energy or toxicity into your personal or professional space needs to go. Examples of clearing this include:

a. Empty the pantry of all the left over holiday junk food (buh-bye candy canes!)
b. Declutter the piles of paper in your office.
c. Limit or turn off the news.
d. Dust and deep clean from all of the holiday decorations.

2. Declare your intentions. We are powerful beings when we use language to verbalize our desires.

a. Have an intentional conversation with your partner, best friend, or coach about how you want to move forward in 2021.
b. Write in your journal about how you want to act, what you want to feel, and who you want to be this year. (Focus more on the BE-ing and less on the DO-ing if you can!)
c. Do a house blessing with your family to set intentions for your new year! (Buy a Sacred Celebrations House Blessing Kit to guide you!)

3. Invest in help. Identify where you’re stuck and decide if you can ask for help or if you need to hire the support you seek.

a. Struggling to get in shape? Hire a virtual trainer.
b. Craving alone time with your partner? Ask a trusted family member to watch your kids for an evening or a weekend afternoon.
c. Seeking strategies to scale your business AND balance your personal life in the middle of these unusual times? Hire a coach.
d. Feeling uncertain about your financial future? Work with a financial consultant.

Every day we’re given the chance to press the reset button.

What do you need to reset in your life?

Take one action today to move toward greater inner peace.

Leave a comment and let me know—I’d love to cheer you on!
